Teaching, Supervision & Consultancy

See below for details of my teaching experience and supervision

Teaching

I have experience of a very broad teaching portfolio. I have taught company law and commercial law at all levels, including ordinary level (qualfying subjects to become a solicitor), honours level, masters level, and for the Diploma in Legal Practice.

I particularly enjoy exploring argumentation structures in corporate law arguments. I have created two new courses to synthesise theory and practice, both at LLM level:

  1. At the University of Edinburgh, my "Applied Corporate Law" course has been running since 2022. It brings together theories as to the role of law and the role of laws in corporate transactions with real life case studies delivered by practitioners; and
  2. At the University of Glasgow, I introduced (with Konstantinos Sergakis) a new "M&A Transactions" course, and delivered it between 2017 and 2020. This course looked at the documents deployed in private M&A, and the law behind such documentation

Supervision

I welcome post graduate supervision in any aspect of corporate law. In particular, any area which seeks to critically re-examine axiomatic features of corporate law, such as the nature of legal personality, limited liability, corporate groups, and the nature of shareholder/board dynamics and legal protections.

I am also interested in commercial law, particularly rights in security, and would be very interested to discuss supervision in this area

I also welcome supervision from broader fields, and have supervised topics such as AI, tax law, and business & human rights.

I am also an experienced examiner, having examined LLMs by Research and PhDs in the broader field of corporate and commerical law.

Consultancy

I have considerable consultancy experience within the field of UK company and corporate law, including advising on directors' duties, the execution of documents by companies, partnership law, and dictation software.

I was the author of the corporate and banking sections of Greens' Practice Styles, and retain a keen interest in practical issues and problems within the sphere of company law.

I welcome the opporunity to undertake further consultancy.
